Coffee in Community Initiative
Communities in Solidarity with Communities
We serve coffee at no charge to upwards of 300 people daily, year-round. Your donation of allowed a significant reduction in our costs over the past few weeks, allowing us to invest further in food security and social/recreational activities here at the Park and Field House.
Jennifer Taylor, Community Programmer, Arts, Culture & Community Services (Oppenheimer Park)
Coffee is one of the most challenging items for food banks and community food security programs to source and provide. But it is also one of the most requested by their clients.
So far CoDev’s Canadian partners BC Teachers’ Federation, Hospital Employees’ Union, Surrey Teachers’ Association, and ILWU Local 500 have generously donated for Café Etico to bag and distribute coffee to various organizations in our community and neighbourhood, for use in food security programs and community centres. That generosity allowed Café Etico to donate 1,400 lbs of coffee in the community!!
Our partners, La Cooperativa Flor de Pancasán, and Flor de Dalia Cooperativa de Servicios Multiples are proud to continue this project to provide smiles and warm moments to underserved communities in Vancouver, Victoria and the Lower Mainland.
“Our women in the downtown eastside come into our drop-in centre and our shelters looking for a meal and a nice hot cup of coffee. You provide that to us through your generosity and kindness and the women appreciate it more than words can adequately express. It's amazing how an act of kindness can totally turn someone's day around and a cup of coffee is more beneficial than many people realize. And the coffee tastes great and the women love it!!”
